Master Pay Scale Point 9 (HK$24,380 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 22 (HK$47,795 per month)
Entry Requirements:
Candidates should have
(a) obtained a Diploma/Higher Certificate in Computer Assisted Cartography, Digital Mapping or Geomatics, from a Hong Kong polytechnic university/polytechnic, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, or a technical college/technical institute, or equivalent [Note(1)];
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of “Level 2” or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [Note(2)]; and
(c) a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (BLNST) [Note (3)].
Note:
(1) Candidates without the requisite academic qualification stated in entry requirement (a) above, but who are undergoing studies with a view to obtaining the requisite qualification by 31 December 2024 may also apply; if selected, appointment will be subject to their obtaining the requisite academic qualification by the date specified above.
(2) For civil service appointment purpose, “Grade C” and “Grade E” in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to “Level 3” and “Level 2” respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(3) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. A pass result in the BLNST is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only those candidates who have passed the BLNST will be considered for appointment. For candidates who have not taken the relevant BLNST or have not attained a pass result in the relevant BLNST at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant BLNST during the recruitment process.
(4) Candidates will be required to pass an assessment on their colour vision for performing duties relating to preparation of maps and charts.
Duties:
A Technical Officer (Cartographic) is mainly deployed on –
(a) preparing colour maps, plans, photomaps, charts and miscellaneous drawings;
(b) performing data gathering, compilation and processing;
(c) maintaining office records and compiling production statistics;
(d) maintaining cadastral, mapping and related databases;
(e) participating in computer system administration and design; and
(f) providing customer service in the sale and promotion of map products.
(Note: May be required to work irregular hours and be posted to other government departments.)
Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
General Notes:
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to further shortlisting. (i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. How to apply:
(a) The new version of application form for Government jobs G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) has been in use with effect from 26 July 2023. Candidates who apply for Government jobs advertised on or after 26 July 2023 should use the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023). If candidates submit the old version form [G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)], they will be required to fill in the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) afresh and submit it within seven days upon request. If candidates fail to submit the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) within the stipulated deadline, their applications will NOT be processed further.
(b) Application Forms [G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk).
(c) Completed application forms, together with photocopies of all relevant certificates and academic transcripts of studies and photocopies of employment proof (e.g. letter of employment and salary proof), should reach the contact address stated below on or before the closing date for applications with the envelope clearly marked “Application for the post of Technical Officer (Cartographic)”.
(d) Online application can be made through the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Candidates who apply online should submit photocopies of all relevant certificates and academic transcripts of studies and photocopies of employment proof (e.g. letter of employment and salary proof) with the envelope clearly marked “Application for the post of Technical Officer (Cartographic)” within one week after the closing date for applications to the contact address as stated below. The online application number should be quoted on the envelope and on every page of the copies of supporting documents.
(e) Applications which are incomplete, late or submitted by fax or e-mail, not duly signed or not made in the prescribed form [G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023)] in accordance with item (a) under “How to Apply” will NOT be considered. If the required supporting documents are not provided, insufficient or are submitted after the deadline specified in items (c) and (d) above, such applications may NOT be considered.
(f) If the application is submitted by post, the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of submission of the application form and/or copies of the supporting documents. This department will not accept any unpaid or underpaid mail items. Applicants should ensure that sufficient postage is paid to avoid unsuccessful delivery of mail items. Any underpaid mail items will be returned or disposed of in accordance with the established procedures of the Hongkong Post.
(g) Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation in about 10 to 12 weeks from the closing date for application, but this timing is subject to change without prior notification to applicants.
