Candidates should have –
(a) completed the first year of a two-year full-time Higher Diploma programme of a relevant trade offered by the Vocational Training Council (VTC) in 2023/2024 (obtained a pass in study), or equivalent; and
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of “Level 2” or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent (Note (1)).
Note:
(1) “Grade E” in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to “Level 2” in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(2) The department will arrange eligible Technicians to join VTC’s Earn and Learn Scheme. The Technicians who successfully join the Scheme will receive subsidy and government allowance in instalments within the training period up to a total amount of HK$84,800.
(3) VTC will arrange registration of the Analytical Testing Technician/ Engineering Technician (Electronics) with the Office of the Director of Apprenticeship as Apprentice under the Apprenticeship Ordinance in the relevant trade.
(4) Applicants who have registered as apprentices under the Apprenticeship Ordinance (Chapter 47) will not be considered.
(5) The signed contract of appointment will be voided should the candidates appointed fail to prove that they have met the entry requirements.
Duties:
For Computer and Electronic Engineering discipline –
(a) To assist in the setup, operation, calibration and maintenance of major air quality monitoring equipment and sampling system; and
(b) To perform other duties as assigned by the supervisors.
For Analytical Science discipline –
(a) To assist in the operation and testing of water, sediments and biota samples at the department’s water science laboratories;
(b) To assist in field work, e.g. water and sediment sample collection, on-site measurements;
(c) To assist in the operation, calibration and maintenance work of water quality monitoring equipment;
(d) To assist in monitoring the operation of department’s waste management facilities; and
(e) To perform other duties as assigned by the supervisors.
Other Job-related Requirements: Successful candidate should study the same full-time Higher Diploma programme of the relevant trade at the VTC during the whole employment period. The hours and venues of work may be varied having regard to the operational needs of the department. Successful candidate may be required to (a) work irregular hours and overtime, including evenings, weekends, Sundays and public holidays; (b) work outdoors; (c) work in remote areas; (d) engage in physically demanding work; (e) work with computer; and (f) wear uniform/ protective clothing provided by the department.
Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidate will be appointed on contract terms and receive training for a period of two years.
